Supply Base Operations

Peterson SBS operates a number of supply bases in Europe’s major oil and gas ports. Supply base operations are a vital part of the logistics chain and for this reason continuous efforts are made to improve process reliability, safety and measures to reduce operations’ environmental impact.

Outbound

We believe that supply base operations start at your cargo’s point of departure: your yard, or the supplier’s yard. From here, we move it to our supply base and prepare and update load lists and manifests. After the necessary pre-shipment inspections, your cargo is loaded onto the vessel transporting it to its port of destination according to a deck plan. This deck plan is drawn up in consultation with the ship’s master, using software that we have developed in-house. The software enables virtual loading and features the IMO protection zones for the segregation of dangerous goods. Its use ensures that there are no issues or unpleasant, time-consuming surprises during the actual loading process.

Inbound

Inbound cargo is inspected for leakage and other potentially unsafe situations before it is discharged and returned to the clients yard, or the vendor.

Safety at the Supply Base

Supply base activities are high-risk activities for both man and the environment. Obviously, our people are well trained and supervised and management systems are in place to handle all imaginable contingencies. In addition, our supply bases are floodlit, so that daytime light conditions prevail during even the darkest nights.
But that’s not enough. Hardware plays a vital role in safety, too. It is therefore our policy to work only with equipment owned by us, and to replace that equipment every five to seven years. Trucks, forklifts and cranes, they’re all relatively new.
